Jabil to Launch ₹1,000 Crore Silicon Photonics Plant in Dholera Smart City

In a major boost for Dholera Smart City, global electronics manufacturer Jabil has announced plans to set up a silicon photonics manufacturing facility in Dholera, Gujarat, with an investment of ₹1,000 crore. The plant, expected to be operational by the end of 2025, aims to produce photonics transceivers critical for AI, telecommunications, and smart infrastructure, while creating around 1,500 skilled jobs.
Strategic Investment in Dholera
Jabil signed an MoU with the Gujarat government at the Gujarat Semiconnect Summit in March 2025 to formalize the project. The company’s decision reflects the strategic advantages of Dholera, which is emerging as a leading hub for high-tech manufacturing in India.
“The facility will not only produce cutting-edge silicon photonics components but also contribute to building a strong semiconductor and high-tech ecosystem in Dholera Smart City project,” said a company representative.
Why Dholera?
Dholera, part of the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) project, is a planned smart city developed under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). Its strategic location, proximity to the upcoming Dholera International Airport, the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, and robust industrial infrastructure make it an ideal choice for Jabil’s high-tech operations.
The region’s renewable energy initiatives, advanced logistics networks, and smart city amenities provide companies with a sustainable and efficient environment for operations.
About Silicon Photonics
Silicon photonics uses light to transmit data at high speeds through optical fibers. The transceivers manufactured at the Dholera plant will serve AI applications, 5G networks, cloud computing, and smart infrastructure, positioning India as a key player in the global photonics market.
The Jabil plant will complement other technology initiatives in the region, including the Tata Semiconductor Plant and the Dholera Solar Park, reinforcing Dholera’s reputation as a center for innovation and industrial growth.

Employment and Economic Growth
The project is expected to create 1,500 direct jobs, boosting local employment opportunities and supporting skill development in advanced manufacturing technologies. Additionally, the plant will stimulate growth in ancillary industries, including logistics, component supply, and research facilities, enhancing the overall industrial ecosystem in Dholera Smart City.
With such developments, Dholera is witnessing rapid smart city progress, attracting both domestic and foreign investors eager to participate in India’s emerging high-tech hubs.
Project Timeline and Current Status
Following the MoU in March 2025, preparatory work for land acquisition and infrastructure development is already underway. The Dholera project current status indicates that construction is progressing as planned, with the plant expected to start production before the end of 2025.
This aligns with ongoing developments across Dholera, including the ABCD Building, the Tata Semiconductor Plant, and the Dholera Solar Park, which collectively enhance the city’s smart city project details and investment potential.
Integration with Dholera Smart City Initiatives
The Jabil facility will integrate with Dholera’s smart city infrastructure, benefiting from renewable energy sources, high-speed connectivity, and advanced logistics networks. Its operations will support other industrial and residential projects, further accelerating Dholera city project objectives and establishing a strong foundation for technological growth.
The plant will also enhance the city’s profile as a hub for upcoming projects in Dholera, making it a magnet for global technology investments.
Impact on India’s Semiconductor and Technology Ecosystem
The silicon photonics plant will contribute significantly to India’s semiconductor and photonics ecosystem, providing high-speed data solutions for AI, telecom, and smart infrastructure. This development underscores the growing importance of Dholera updates and Dholera latest news, highlighting the city’s emergence as a high-tech industrial destination.
Investors tracking Dholera's latest update in 2025 will find this project particularly promising, as it aligns with ongoing industrial and urban development initiatives in the region.
